utilities projects - pend oreille river, washington Boundary Dam, Pend Oreille River, Washington Post Falls Dam, Lake Coeur d’Alene, Idaho Global Remote Sensing was subcontracted by Battelle in April 2006 for multibeam bathymetric surveys in the Pend Oreille, Washington region – namely the waterway located around and between Box Canyon Dam and Boundary Dam. The information gained from this survey was to supplement an area study required for Seattle City Light to continue operations with their hydroelectric presence at Boundary Dam. The primary survey was conducted using GRS small survey vessel, the Simrad EM3002 multibeam echo sounder (MBES) system in a 30 degree configuration to extend the reach of the system shallow areas, and real-time kinematic (RTK) control provided by a Battelle land survey team. Subsequent surveys to include additional pole ranging and single beam (SBES) surveys in rapids and within canyon regions followed in November 2007. RTK control was maintained by Parametrix surveyors. Global Remote Sensing was later task with integrating Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR), Orthographic elevation points, RTK pole measurements, and MBES/SBES bathymetric data sets into a seamless digital terrain model. The assembly of three unlike data sets required GRS to utilize its Geographic Information System (GIS) capabilities that included GRS's proprietary software applications. The completed data set size exceeded 1 TB in size from processing to deliverable.
