Global Remote Sensing, LLC Introduces the newest

version of the C3D into the inventory

January, 2008.  

In early August, 2007 Global Remote Sensing, LLC purchased the newest version of the Benthos/L3 C3D Sidescan/Bathymetry System.  The C3D SARA CAATI (Small Aperture Range Angle and Computed Angle of Arrival Transient Imaging) used to acquire both sidescan and multibeam sonar data simultaneously from either a towed or hull-mounted configuration.  The advantage of this technology is that the side-scan imagery and bathymetry are accurately geo-registered with one unit saving time and money for the client without loss of data quality.  Another benefit is that the system can be used in very shallow water with nearly ten times the water depth in across track coverage.  This capability allows GRS to conduct swathe bathymetric surveys in areas once considered time consuming using other methods.

 

 

The C3D version that GRS has acquired is unique in that it includes a third configuration system/housing that includes the Benthos Chirp III sub-bottom profiler to operate concurrently with the bathy/sidescan.  The incorporation of these three essential systems (Side-scan sonar, Multibeam Sonar, and Sub-bottom profiler) provides full geophysical survey capability within a single system in waters ranging from depths of 3 meters to greater than 1500 meters.  The system brings the very high resolution capability typical of nearshore surveys into deeper waters. 

 

GRS has been using the C3D since its early inception and have used both the hull-mounted and towed system prior to this purchase.  The performance and ease of use of the C3D provide GRS with even greater capabilities for work here in the United States and abroad filling gaps in our current instrument inventory.  The GRS C3D has already been deployed for long-term surveys in Eastern Africa.
